WIP Projects: Planar Atlas, Part Ⅰ

Imagine a constellation, worlds connected by lines through space...

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”

— Ibn Battuta

WWWhen working on Trigate and adding planes over time, I’ve often wondered what they would look like when graphed on paper. I’ve dabbled with star map design tools typically meant for science-fiction settings but never got really far with it. It’s not that there wasn’t a desire to complete such an endeavour, just that offline tools would only ever be useful to myself. I wanted to build something that others could look at and explore!

Eventually I came across a website that was displaying data in a 3d node space. THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! But what was it called?

Turns out, it’s a 3d Force Graph.

3d Force Graph

I’ve been working on it in my spare time as I will need to add quite a few features: A legend, info-box, and a few other things I’m sure that will become obvious as development on it continues.

Let’s see where it ends up!

It begins!
